About Fit Union
Built by athletes.
For everyone.
Fit Union was started by a former college football player and an Army officer who believe the same thing: whether you sit at a desk all day or work a job that keeps you moving, you should train with purpose and treat your health like it matters.
Desk job or active job, your body is doing a job too. Train with purpose.

My journey
From athletic performance to lifelong health
Over the last six years, I've experienced just about every side of physical fitness. At my heaviest, I weighed about 270 pounds at around 27% body fat. At my lightest, I weighed 189. Today I'm around 204 pounds and about 16% body fat. Along the way, my goals, my training and my understanding of fitness changed a lot.
For much of my life, fitness revolved around football. I trained to get bigger, stronger, faster and more explosive, because that's what the sport demanded. When my football career ended, I started looking at fitness differently. I wasn't training for the next season anymore. I was training for myself.
I wanted to look better, feel better, move better and improve my overall health. I added conditioning, running, functional movement and new approaches to strength training, and I developed a real appreciation for nutrition: how the food we eat affects our bodies, our energy and our performance.
Years of experimenting, learning and adjusting taught me that fitness isn't about one number on a scale. It's about building a body and a lifestyle that let you do the things you enjoy for as long as possible.
Why I want to help you
Health is wealth.
I've experienced weight gain, weight loss, building muscle, athletic training, and the challenge of staying fit while balancing a busy professional life. I understand that different people have different goals.
- Someone starting from zero who just wants to get in shape
- Someone looking to lose weight and regain confidence
- A busy professional trying to build a consistent routine
- A high-performance athlete chasing the next level
- Someone approaching retirement who wants to stay strong, active and independent
Wherever you're starting, my goal is to help you make meaningful improvements to your health and quality of life. I'm not here to make fitness complicated. I'm here to listen, understand your goals, build a manageable plan, and give you the encouragement and accountability you need along the way.
My coaching approach
Five beliefs behind every plan on Fit Union.
Your goals. Your starting point. Your plan.
Your fitness program should be designed around you, not the other way around. I don't believe in throwing someone who's never stepped foot in a gym into an advanced program, or in giving a former athlete the same plan as a beginner. Everyone starts somewhere. My job is to understand where you are today, where you want to be, and how we can realistically get you there.
Encouragement over intimidation
My coaching style is supportive, encouraging and focused on helping you succeed. I want to be someone you feel comfortable asking questions, sharing challenges with and celebrating progress alongside. There will be hard workouts and days when progress feels slow. That's normal, and I'm here to help you keep moving forward.
Progress without perfection
You don't need two hours in the gym every day. You don't need to cut out every food you enjoy, or build your whole life around fitness. You need a plan that works with your schedule, your responsibilities and your goals. We'll build consistent habits that get results without making life unnecessarily restrictive.
Fitness for every stage of life
Building muscle, losing weight, improving athletic performance, building endurance or staying active as you get older: I want to help. For some people success means losing 30 pounds. For others it's gaining 15 pounds of muscle, running a first 5K or enjoying an active retirement. There isn't one definition of success. My goal is to help you achieve yours.
Building independence
I want you to understand your own health and fitness. I'll explain the reasoning behind your training, help you build better habits and teach you to recognize progress. The goal isn't to make you depend on a coach forever. It's to give you the knowledge, confidence and consistency to stay healthy long after we've reached your first goals.
Co-founder, technology and marketing
Trevor
Atkins
Trevor is a graduate of The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, and an officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard, where he serves as a platoon leader.
In the military, fitness isn't a hobby. It's part of the job. You're tested on it, you train for it year-round, and as a leader you're expected to set the standard for the soldiers you lead. That's the mindset Trevor brings to Fit Union: your body is your most important piece of equipment, so train it, fuel it and take care of it.
Trevor started out as an endurance athlete and spent years building strength on top of it. Today he trains as a hybrid athlete: real strength work, plus the endurance his duties as an Army officer demand.
At Fit Union, Trevor runs the technology and the marketing: the dashboard, the systems behind it, and getting the word out, so Mitchell can spend his time coaching.
